Zhou Chair
Beauty in deliberate simplicity.
A continuous cork form
01 / The idea
Beauty in
deliberate simplicity.
Guided by da qiao ruo zhuo — great skill expressed through apparent simplicity — Zhou Chair gives material and structure a direct, restrained expression. Back, arms, seat and legs flow together, as though a place to sit has been carved from a single block of cork.
The exterior holds the quiet strength of an elemental block; the interior curves gently around the body. Solid and void, weight and softness meet in one form, giving the chair a sculptural presence and an inviting place in daily life.

02 / Prototype carving
A sculpture,
taking shape.
The carving study shows Zhou Chair in a raw prototype state. Tool marks, wood shavings and unfinished edges reveal a form emerging through subtraction. The seat is hollowed out while the back, arms and legs remain connected within one solid body.
The wooden prototype study explores the form; cork is the intended material for the chair. From rough mass to a continuous silhouette, the balance of outer volume, inner curves and open space gives Zhou Chair its character as a sculpture to sit in.

04 / In space
A sculptural presence.
A place in everyday life.
Timber, stone and changing light bring out the chair’s solid volume and gentle interior curves. A sculpture to sit in, finding a quiet place within different spaces.
